Wilderness protection group releases report on govts' conservation efforts – May 24, 2023
Representatives from the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS) present a status report of the progress of the federal, provincial and territorial governments in reaching Canada’s goal of conserving 30 per cent of its land and ocean by 2030. The report outlines the lack of conservation progress that has been made and urges all levels of government to work together and collaborate with Indigenous communities in order to halt and reverse biodiversity loss across the country. Speaking with reporters on Parliament Hill are Sandra Schwartz, national executive director, and Alain Branchaud, biologist and executive director of the CPAWS’ Quebec chapter. The news conference comes ahead of the upcoming meeting in Ottawa of federal, provincial and territorial ministers for conservation, wildlife and biodiversity.
