Using Climate Models in Urban Planning


Our ability to anticipate future climate impacts, and to receive early warnings when disasters are imminent, are big factors in urban adaptation plans and risk management strategies. As Dr Venkatachalam Ramasway, Director of the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Laboratory at Princeton University, tells Fergus O’Rorke, while there’s been good progress in developing reliable climate models, there is always a need for more timely and accurate information that can be applied at a city level.
