Urban Heat Islands

0

Urban heat islands – areas of heat intensified by built environments – affect nearly every urbanized area and that populations that live in them. A 2014 report by Climate Central identified that of the 60 cities they analyzed, 57 of them had measureable urban heat island effects over the last decade – and on average these cities experience 8 more days over 90°F in the summer than the surrounding rural areas. What does this mean for our cities and the people in them as global temperatures rise due to climate change?
