URBAN DISASTER RISK MITIGATION AND CLIMATE RESILIENT DEVELOPMENT
Worldwide cities are at increased risk of disasters and also face implications of climate change, and thus there is an increased need of mitigating and managing the disaster risks and also trying to come up with climate resilient development for the future. Considering the importance of this course on Urban Disaster Risk Mitigation and Climate Resilient Development intents to impart knowledge on include Disaster risk – types/ causal factors and impacts, Disaster Risk Mitigation, Management and Risk Governance, Macro and Micro Climate Change – causal factors and implications, urban heat islands, Climate resilient Urban Development and these would be supplemented by Case Studies.
Through this course, the expected outcome would be to understand issues related to disaster, and the relevance of disaster management and be acquainted with the process of integrating disaster mitigation in the spatial planning process; understand the interface between urban development and climate change and disaster risk, concepts related to energy efficient development, and sustainable city forms and be familiar with various mitigation and management measures applied in dealing with climate change along with relevant policies and strategies.
