0

Extension Directors and Administrators networked and engaged with a panel of experts who present multiple strategies that support the sustainable development of commercial and community-focused urban agriculture. Joining ECOP Chair Chris Watkins (Cornell University) was Anu Rangarajan, Director of the Cornell Small Farms Program, and Brad Gaolach, Washington State University, Director of Western Center for Metropolitan Extension & Research (WCMER). Anu shared approaches that support soil-based, controlled environment/vertical farms, and social-impact urban farms. “The Promise of Urban Agriculture”, NIFA-funded research study, reviews 48 strategies for farmers, educators, planners and policy makers to support commercial urban farms. Brad, presented current opportunities for engaging WCMER and National Urban Extension Leaders (NUEL) at the state, region, and national levels.
