The Heroes of Urban Farming in Cairo and the Pandemic: Abdallah Tawfik, Urban Greens (Cairo, Egypt)

Abdallah Tawfik, co-founder of Urban Greens, used to be an architect. However, in the past few years, he’s lived and breathed rooftop gardens as an urban farmer and activist in the dense, built environment of Cairo, Egypt. Abdallah works closely with communities, schools and families—primarily in the informal neighborhoods—to promote the benefits of growing vegetables on numerous flat rooftops of the city.
