South Africans creating urban heat maps of their cities


Cities in South Africa are particularly vulnerable to rising heat stress, partly due to the legacy of apartheid urban planning. With the help of community groups, the local governments are creating heat maps of their own cities to plan and adapt to heat stress. This combination of local government leadership, community-led science, and advanced climate forecasting is helping inform South Africa’s response to a changing climate.
