In Geldermalsen, the Netherlands, the Linge River overflowed its banks due to heavy rains on Friday evening, according to the Rivierenland Water Management Authority. Today, the water level may rise to critical values.
On Friday evening, the Water Resources Board, together with a fire department employee and the mayor, discussed the rise of water. In the meantime, many measures have been taken against flooding: pumping stations are operating at full capacity, and additional pumps are operating in bottlenecks, according to local authorities.
There is also a warning that flooding will occur not only in rural areas. Basements, sheds and houses in urban areas may also be affected by flooding. Property owners in the floodplains of the Linge River (west of Buren) should take into account that their property will be flooded.
