Public Health, Climate Change, & Urban Forestry: Neal Halfon, M.D., M.P.H. (video 2 of 4)
The featured video is from the seminar “Public Health, Climate Change, and Urban Forests” at Los Angeles City Hall on August 13, 2014 co-hosted by the Los Angeles Center for Urban Natural Resources Sustainability, the City of Los Angeles City Plants program, and the Luskin Center for Innovation, University of California at Los Angeles. The four presenters were collaborators on a larger endeavor headed by the Urban Ecosystems and Social Dynamics Program, Pacific Southwest Research Station, USDA Forest Service, focusing on water, climate change, and environmental justice from a vulnerability assessment perspective. Each presenter considers a different component to the proposed framework for addressing climate change and public health, including anticipated changes in the Los Angeles region (J.R. DeShazo, Ph.D., Director of the Luskin Center), physical health impacts (Neal Halfon, M.D., M.P.H., Director of the Center for Healthier Children, Families, and Communities, UCLA), mental and psychological health impacts (Gary Evans, Ph.D., Cornell University), and potential approaches to adaptation and mitigation (Colleen Callahan, M.A., Deputy Director of the Luskin Center). For additional information about the Los Angeles Center for Urban Natural Resources Sustainability please contact Kevin O’Donnell, PSW Social Science Analyst and LA Center Administrator (kbodonnell@fs.fed.us).
