Overview of Increasing Urban Resiliency to Climate Change in Asia

UN-Habitat estimates that 70% of the world’s population will live in urban areas by 2050, and approximately 60% of the growth is expected to take place in Asia. While cities will bear the bulk of responsibilities for adaptation measures, some of Asia’s fastest growing urban areas are among the least well prepared and funded. Christine Loh, the Hong Kong SAR Government’s Under Secretary for the Environment, told Fergus O’Rorke that responding to climate change is a progressive, integrated and participatory process.
