National wireless carriers are zeroing in on rural markets, and CoBank’s lead communications economist Jeff Johnston says that creates an opportunity for rural communication companies. Part of carriers’ strategy to tap this market includes investing in their rural networks, which includes towers. Rural communication companies have local knowledge, expertise, and access to resources positioning them well to build and operate towers – an opportunity with a diversified revenue stream from a very stable business model.
