Nigeria's Soilless Farming Pioneer
Only about a third of Nigeria is arable land, according to World Bank figures. This falls way short of the land needed for food production. Nigeria also gets some of the world’s lowest crop yields per square meter. But a lab near Lagos aims to change farming techniques and, crucially, make farming young again. Entrepreneur Samson Ogbole has set up his own farms using aeropnic and hydroponic farming methods that use water and fertilizer to grow crops in compact areas. And he has a rapt young class of students to teach!
