Singaporeans may soon be able to look forward to fresher and tastier home-grown produce that is farmed vertically. Temasek and German pharma giant Bayer have set up a company to experiment with the genetics of seeds, so as to produce new varieties that can thrive in urban environments. Produce like tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers will be among the first to be researched and tested by the firm called Unfold, which has raised US$30 million in initial funding. Unfold will operate first out of California before setting up its Singapore premises.
