Mapping Edmonton's Urban Heat Island
Are some Edmonton communities more prone to extreme temperatures? That’s what a group of University students set out to discover.
Using infrared satellite imagery, Environmental Sciences and Environmental Studies undergrads from The Kings University uncovered a 16 to 20 degree Celsius difference between Edmonton’s hottest and coolest communities.
Edmonton’s Urban Heat Map was commissioned by Shrubsciber, a local tree growing and planting initiative.
