To better understand the city’s climate, Wageningen University & Research and AMS Institute launched weather balloons from Dam Square, Amsterdam. For 24 hours, every 2 hours a balloon was launched. The weather balloons measure to what height the heat in the city differs from the temperatures outside the city. This effect is known as the ‘urban heat island’.
