Initiative Launch the Summary for Urban Policymakers (SUP) of the IPCC 6th Assessment Report
The Summary for Urban Policymakers (SUP) report series will distill the findings of the IPCC 6th Assessment Report for an urban context. This unprecedented effort brings together the IPCC scientists with cities and city networks, the business community and other key stakeholders to ensure the most up-to-date science is translated in the most meaningful way to support immediate and informed action at the local level. Led by The Resilience Shift, this inclusive effort is being co-developed by a group of core partners, including authors of the IPCC Working Group reports, the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy (GCoM) (and associated partner networks including C40 Cities, ICLEI and UCLG), national government leadership from the German Government (BMU and GIZ) and Resilient First. The AR6 SUP will be supported by consultations with three major groups of stakeholders: city, local and regional governments and the city networks that support them, businesses and business networks and national government funders and endorsers to produce a set of summary reports that speak to the opportunity for action within urban areas, particularly taking into consideration the best and latest science and facilitating climate action. The project will launch at COP26 in 2021 with the four volumes released over the 2022 calendar year. These reports will offer an unprecedented translation of science into accessible and applicable findings for urban and national policymakers, business leaders and other key stakeholders to scale up and accelerate action on the climate crisis in urban areas.
