How would the planet Earth look like without people?
Without human life on Earth, the planet would likely undergo significant changes in the immediate aftermath and over time. In the short term, power plants and factories would shut down, causing a rapid drop in temperature and an increase in air pollution. Without human maintenance, roads and buildings would begin to crumble and collapse. Wild animals would start to take over urban areas, and the lack of human intervention would cause an overgrowth of plant life in cities. Over time, the lack of human intervention would lead to changes in the population of domesticated and wild animals, and the natural decomposition of organic matter would cause an increase in greenhouse gases, contributing to climate change. Ruins of human civilization would be overtaken by vegetation and other forms of life, and over millions of years, the Earth would look vastly different from today, with new species of plants and animals, and a different balance of ecosystems.
