Export potential of Uganda's fruit and vegetable sector | MORNING AT NTV

Did you know that Uganda has an incredible capacity for exporting fresh fruits and vegetables? According to estimates, the country exports 5.8 million tonnes of these products, worth $35 million a year. This puts Uganda in second place, just behind Nigeria, in sub-Saharan Africa in terms of production. With around 84% of Uganda’s workforce employed in the rural sector, which contributes 42% of the national gross domestic product and 80% of the export earnings, it’s clear that agriculture plays a critical role in the country’s economy.

To shed more light on this topic, we’re joined by Fred Zake, the Executive Director of Hortifresh. He’ll be sharing his insights on the potential of Uganda’s fresh produce industry, and what it means for the country’s economy and people.
