#EDD21 – STAND INTERVIEW: Pioneering Climate Change Adaptation in Urban Egypt
The GIZ Urban Development Cluster in Egypt has worked towards improved living conditions in informal settlements since 2004, advocating for participatory approaches and inclusive urban prosperity for all. Egypt’s cities are highly vulnerable to climate change, which is manifested in the rising frequency of phenomena such as urban heat islands and coastal flooding. To address these challenges, GIZ piloted a Climate Change Adaptation and Urban Resilience Portfolio, which focused on architectural adaptation measures, awareness raising, and the integration of climate change adaptation measures into governorate level planning. The panel explored Cluster’s current work, which builds upon the Nexus concept – an integrated multi-sectoral approach to addressing the vulnerabilities of human and ecological systems.
