Cities at the front of climate change- Koen de Ridder
Koen de Ridder (VITO institute, Belgium) is an expert in numerical modeling of the atmosphere, and modeling of the urban climate and the simulations of the quality of urban air.
In this conference, Koen de Ridder explains the new model developed by VITO to simulate the current and future climates, which explain some microclimatic effects such as the urban heat islands. In this talk, some possibilities of mitigating the increase in temperatures are discussed. This involve, for instance, urban green infrastructures.
This conference is part of the “Facing Climate Change” series in collaboration with the Re-City platform.
