Increasingly, cities are attempting to establish more and equitable access to green spaces. Less common are efforts which ensure that green spaces provide high quality benefits to the people in the urban core – in particular, those who are most vulnerable, such as people of color and low-income populations. As Sustainability Director for the City of St. Louis, Catherine Werner has found that centering equity in natural resource decisions can yield greater urban biodiversity, enhanced eco-literacy, and improved human health and well-being.
