BC to spend $10 million on air conditioners for the vulnerable over next 3 years | FULL

With another hot summer anticipated, the provincial government is investing $10 million over three years in free air conditioners for vulnerable residents.

The program will be administered through BC Hydro, which already has already piloted a similar initiative, Health Minister Adrian Dix said Tuesday.

The Crown corporation will accept applications from members of the public with a focus on lower-income residents and seniors, and in some cases, health authorities will be able to provide referrals as well. About 8,000 air conditioners are expected to be distributed in the next three years, Dix said.
